Safe Streets and Walkways for ALL!

When we moved to Elma it was encouraging to see sidewalks and bike lanes along Main Street and other primary roads. However, venturing into neighborhoods, it was clear that we need to prioritize better ways for vehicles, pedestrians, and bikes to share the transportation routes. Elma needs to develop streets for everyone, regardless of their mobility.

In my neighborhood there are people with disabilities who use mobility devices that are required to travel in the vehicle lane two to three blocks before they can travel on a dedicated paved walkway. We can fix this by having a city policy that requires safe streets and walkways for all. It could be a sidewalk with curbs, or it could be a wider paved shoulder striped for pedestrians and bikes.

These infrastructure improvements are a valuable connection to having mobile and safe routes to schools, and shopping. They would also encourage families to be more active.

As your city council person I will make safe and sustainable infrastructure a priority.
